Dovetail House #2

October 12, 2010

Claire has sent me more pictures of some beautifully crafted dovetails. Here is  an image of  “The Grist Mill” which is a building made with dovetails built in 1877  in Keremeos B.C. It is  located on  #3 Hwy between Princeton and Osoyoos. The joinery which includes wooden waterwheel and gears are fantastic! This heritage site  is very inspiring for off-the-grid thinkers. Even exposed to the elements and being in frequent use for decades, the joinery has held up. It really is hard to beat Ikea in term of price, but you can bet particle board, butt joints with metal knock-down fasteners and melamine paint wouldn’t stand the test of time as well as this grist mill has!
